How to Get Your Car Ready for Pickup Day

Empty flatbed tow truck arriving for a scheduled scrap car pickup

Pickup day is the easy part — if ten minutes of prep happened the night before. Here's the whole checklist.

The night before

  • Empty every compartment — glovebox, console, door pockets, under the seats, the trunk.
  • Check for garage door openers and toll transponders; those are the two things people miss most.
  • Dig out the registration and ownership papers and put them somewhere findable.
  • Round up all sets of keys, including the spare that's been in the kitchen drawer since 2019.
  • Take the plates off, or plan to do it at the curb while the truck is loading.

Tell us the awkward stuff early

Flat tires, a car that's locked with the keys lost inside, a vehicle blocked in behind a fence you'll need to open — none of it is a problem, but all of it is better known in advance. We bring winches, dollies and a second set of hands when the job needs them. What we can't do is magically have them if nobody told us.

What you don't need to do

Don't wash it. Don't move it to the curb. Don't feel obligated to drain fluids or remove any parts. That's our side of the deal. Your side is a cleared car, papers and a signature — that's it.
